Chemistry

When Enphase designed the IQ solar battery, the engineers opted to use a newer more expensive Lithium Iron Phosphate or LFP technology to deliver a more efficient and longer lasting battery compared to older Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide (or NMC chemistry) batteries.

As a matter of safety, Cobalt-free LFP batteries reduce the fire risk associated with batteries using Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide or NMC chemistry.

Also, LFP batteries are more easily recycled with a reduced environmental impact.

Battery Capacity

The Enphase AC Battery range is modular and comes in four LFP models:

  • The Enphase IQ3 and IQ3T each have a storage capacity of 3.36 kWh.
  • The larger Enphase IQ10 and IQ10 T models each have storage capacities of 10.08 kWh.

These conveniently sized batteries can be stacked in the same system, allowing customers to customize exact amounts of battery storage.

Depth of Discharge

Depth of Discharge or DoD is a measurement of how much power can be drawn from a battery. It is expressed as a percentage ('%') compared to the 100% maximum the battery can hold. Solar batteries are engineered to be repeatedly charged, discharged, and recharged over the years. However, the more this cycle repeats, the more impact it will have on the lifespan of the solar battery

In an attempt to minimize this effect, many manufacturers limit DoD percentage to extend a battery’s useful service life. DoD industry standards range between 80% and 100%.

The Enphase AC Battery is rated at 100% DoD, meaning you can use 100% of the batteries maximum capacity with no effect on the life span of the battery. Some battery manufacturers limit DoD to retain the longevity of a battery, but the Enphase AC battery gives you the 100% depth of discharge.

A higher DoD rating reflects a potentially higher-quality battery.

Power Output

Continuous power is a measurement, expressed in kW, of a battery's potential to release a sustained energy for a given period. Peak power is a measurement expressed in kW of a potential maximum power output in short bursts.

Round-trip Efficiency

In order for a battery to function, a small amount of electric power is required for its operation. The total amount of charge that comes out of a battery subtracted from the amount of charge that went into the battery is expressed as a percentage ('%'). This is called Round-trip Efficiency.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration, assesses average round-trip efficiency at approximately 80%. The Enphase IQ3, IQ3T, IQ10 and IQ10T models deliver a round-trip efficiency of 86%, solidly above average.

System Compatibility

Warranty

All four Enphase AC batteries include a throughput clause with an industry standard 10-year warranty. All four models also come with a guaranteed retention of 70% of their original capacity throughout the life of the warranty.

These warranties are in effect for ten years or until the throughput limit is exceeded, whichever is first.
