solar jobs

Careers in Renewable EnergyThis is our second year publishing a list of websites posting solar jobs and renewable jobs. We’ve rounded the list to our top 20 picks for 2010-2011. It’s evident that we are in the midst of a transition from old methods of power generation to sustainable alternatives. Global energy needs can be met with renewable energy solutions and as this is realized many new jobs are being created each year. The changes are so rapid in fact it becomes challenging to clearly see the magnitude and pace of the transition, but an energy revolution is no doubt underway. The quiet, steady change has been forged more thoughtfully and quickly thanks largely to accessibility provided by the Internet. We have never been at a place that lends itself such access to the international cooperation of science, technology and leadership to solve our collective energy needs, as we are today.

Presently (based on 2010 statistics) renewables comprise an astonishing ¼ of our global energy supply from all sources, including heat and transportation. The geography of this new energy market is radically changing the energy market’s power base with the strongest manufacturing leadership seen in China, India and South Korea. Collectively developing countries have more than ½ of current global renewable power capacity. The U.S. and Brazil account for 90% of global ethanol production as of early 2010. Also during the past 5 years (2005-2010) global wind capacity grew 27% annually, solar hot water 19% annually, and ethanol production 20% annually. In early 2010 there were an estimated 3 million jobs worldwide in renewable energy industries, not including indirect related jobs. Grid-connected solar PV alone has grown by a staggering average of 60% every year for the past decade (2000-2010).*

One Energy Training school we would like to mention is RENAC- Renewables Academy. RENAC training is demand-oriented. They accept a wide client base including companies in the renewable energy industry, policy-makers, energy professionals, students or community organizations for example. Based in Berlin, they work internationally. To learn more about training opportunities, online learning or climate and energy concerns visit our Energy Partners, Online Communities and Resources Page.

Repower America is asking for your participation. Join them to help create alternative energy jobs for Americans, to learn about clean energy in the U.S. and be part of the solution. Visit them online and get involved. Repower America.

energy video

A selection of energy movies and video that examines the politics of global energy demands, the energy industry, peak oil and the renewable energy revolution. The unified message Illustrated in many of these films is our tenuous relationship with oil and other finite energy sources as it relates to every facet of our daily lives, warning that our dependence on non-renewables provides no future.
